Content about Trails Under Development
BNHA is excited to grow its network of urban heritage trails. Currently under development are two new trails.
Market Center Heritage Trail
This trail will explore the west side of the city center, once the city’s premier shopping district and now the focus of a state-designated arts and entertainment district. Envisioned as a loop around historic Lexington Market, the trail will showcase a number of historic themes, including the fight for civil rights, the retail corridor along Howard Street, and the city's performing arts scene. In addition to the market, star attractions along the trail will include the Bromo Seltzer Arts Tower, the University of Maryland's Davidge Hall, Camden Station and the adjacent Oriole Park at Camden Yards, and the Westminster Burying Ground, the resting place of Edgar Allen Poe. A trail spur will connect Poe's gravesite with the Poe House in southwest Baltimore.
Federal Hill/Sharp-Leadenhall Heritage Trail
This trail will weave through three distinctive neighborhoods which lie just south of the Inner Harbor and tell significant stories on the War of 1812 and the Civil Rights Movement. Potential star attractions along the trail include Old Otterbein United Methodist Church, Leadenhall Baptist Church, Cross Street Market, and Federal Hill Park.
