Stepping into the Lyric transports one to the late 19th century. Its lavish decoration was designed to evoke a grand European music hall. Classical-style details (pilasters topped with Corinthian capitals, arched pedimented doorways, and dentiled cornices) and superb acoustic sound design make the Lyric a favorite among many performers. Built in 1893, the Lyric was an important piece of Baltimore’s cultural development. The Lyric was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.
Housed in the historic Lyric Theatre, the Modell Performing Arts Center is a favorite Baltimore destination to see Broadway touring shows, special events, and concerts. The center is also home to Lyric Opera Baltimore, which stages grand performances with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.
