Enoch Pratt was a wealthy merchant whose philanthropic gifts are seen today in the Enoch Pratt Library and the Shephard Pratt Hospital. Construction began on his home on Monument Street in 1844. Pratt lived in the home until his death in 1896; his wife lived in the house until her death in 1911. The home is now part of the campus of the Maryland Historical Society. The house was designated a city landmark in 2014.
