We invite you to join us for a special performance marking this momentous day
On June 19th, 2023, people across the country came together to celebrate Juneteenth, the federal holiday commemorating the emancipation of the last known slaves in the U.S. in 1865. Festivities included parties, cookouts, and festivals, while some used the occasion to reflect on slavery and highlight ongoing issues faced by Black Americans. In Baltimore, a performance called "Passage: A Juneteenth Journey" combined various dance styles to tell the story of Juneteenth. Additionally, a new mural at the Avenue Bakery honored the signing of the 15th Amendment and recognized the contributions of the free and enslaved community during the Civil War. The mural aims to inspire future leaders in the fight for civil rights.
